Lincolnshire Community Health Services values equality and human rights in everything we do.  One of our key commitments is to work with our partners to reduce health inequalities and value equality and diversity within the community. We aim to ensure that the services we deliver meet the needs of the population we serve regardless of their age, disability, gender, race, religion/ belief, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnerships, transgender and pregnancy/maternity.

We recognise the value of equality as a provider of healthcare services and as an employer, and we will make every effort to eliminate discrimination and reduce inequality.

To succeed we need to work closely with service users, carers, staff and partners to deliver better health and social care services for all.

Making equality the golden thread

We aim to develop and ensure that equality is mainstreamed into everything we do, as 'the golden thread' to all our activity.

We value equality, diversity and inclusion and we have set out our approach in our policies and practices with the aim of ensuring dignity and respect for all

We will undertake to:

  • work in partnership with our local communities to support delivery of services which are appropriate to the needs of the community.
  • continue developing a skilled, capable and representative workforce which will deliver an effective service to the communities we serve.
  • work in partnership with other public and voluntary sector organisations to further improve the services we provide to our diverse communities
  • Involve our patients, the public, other stakeholders and partners in the planning and delivery of the health services we provide.
  • To eliminate any adverse risks and impact identified in our service provision, policies and decision making processes to the people we serve.
  • Consult will local communities and groups to grade our organisation using the Equality Delivery System (2) tool.

Public Sector Equality Duty

The general equality duty is set out in the Equality Act 2010 (the Act). In summary, those subject to the equality duty must, in the exercise of their functions, have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act.
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristics and those who do not.
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

The specific duties in summary are a need to publish information:

  • Publish sufficient information to demonstrate its compliance with the general equality duty across its functions on a basis.
  • This information must include, in particular:  Information on the effect that its policies and practices have had on people who share a relevant protected characteristic, to demonstrate the extent to which it furthered the aims of the general equality duty for its employees and for others with an interest in the way it performs its functions.

Annual Equality & Diversity Report

Lincolnshire Community Health Services produce an Equality & Diversity Annual Report.  This report takes into account our activities and outputs in relation to equality and diversity and of the legislative requirements of the Public Sector General Duty (Equality Act 2010).  Our Board remains fully committed to ensuring that we meet and exceed our legal duties to promote equality and diversity of opportunity, to foster good relations between diverse communities that we serve and to eradicate discrimination at all levels.  This report sets out what we have achieved and what our action plan is for the following year.
