Posted on: 14th June 2022

The NHS in the Midlands has today revealed the ten individuals and teams it has chosen as regional champions for the prestigious NHS Parliamentary Awards to mark the NHS’s 74th birthday.

Those recognised in the 10 categories, which range from Excellence in Primary Care to the Lifetime Achievement Award, include GPs, mental health teams, NHS volunteers, respiratory physiotherapists and critical care staff.

The judges, drawn from across the NHS have today selected the 10 regional winners who have been selected from over 120 nominations, one in each of the 10 categories.

The team have worked so hard to make our service a success and we are so happy to be able to raise awareness of the fantastic work happening in Lincolnshire on a national platform.

“The children and young adults on our caseload have significant complex physical disabilities which are life limiting and they are at high risk of life-threatening chest infections. The service provides both preventative and rapid response respiratory physiotherapy support in their own home, to prevent hospital admissions, enabling families to stay together.”

Regional judge and Assistant Regional Director of Nursing & Quality at NHS England and NHS Improvement in the Midlands, Miriam Coffie said: “It was such a privilege to read all of the amazing nominations across the region.

“The passion, motivation and compassion of staff shone through as did the dedication to improving patient outcomes, experience and overall quality of care. Many congratulations to all nominees and winners”.

NHS Midlands Staff Engagement Group Member (SEG) and judge Mandy Wilson said: “The nominations showed me, the real passion, compassion and care that staff have given to help patients during an unprecedented time in the history of healthcare.

“All the nominations have shown how people came together and went that ‘extra mile’ for not only themselves but also patients and the public.”

Amanda Pritchard, NHS Chief Executive, said: “Undoubtedly one of the NHS’ greatest strengths is our extraordinary staff – each one an important part of the NHS team which has treated more than 750,000 patients with covid, delivered more than 124 million Covid jabs and worked tirelessly to make significant inroads recovering services impacted by the pandemic.

“The last two years have been incredibly challenging for everyone, including not just NHS staff but all key workers, but through this, health and care staff and volunteers have continued to make a real difference to their patients.

“This is reflected in the hundreds of nominations received from across the country and I want to congratulate every one of those people receiving recognition for service to their communities and making a real and lasting difference for patients.”

The NHS Parliamentary Awards were established to engage MPs in identifying and highlighting innovative and high-quality care across every constituency in England, and thanking staff for their dedication, hard work and commitment by recognising and honouring their achievements. Now, the Awards have seen nearly half of English Members of Parliament nominating an individual or organisation for an award.

The NHS Parliamentary awards rightly honour those who continue to make a huge contribution to our country, before, during and after COVID-19.

Our regional champions will now go head to head with other winners from across the country to be judged by a national panel made up of senior leaders representing staff and patients, for the chance to win the prestigious national award.

The awards will be presented at a special ceremony in the House of Commons on 6 July 2022, the day after the NHS’s 74th birthday.
