This course is for nurses who work in care homes, palliative care, hospices, and with patients in the community. You will gain skills and knowledge on the implications of expected death. You will develop your clinical skills as well as communication skills on this course. This course will give you the confidence you require to verify an expected death.

Agenda
  • Understand the legal frameworks for nurse/allied professions verification of death in line with professional bodies guidelines.
  • Understand the process required for clinical examination and determination whether or not death has occurred.
  • Recognition of the requirements for different categories of death.
  • Identify the requirement to maintain accurate records.
  • Support relatives before and after an expected death.
  • Fully understand legal requirements of recording a fact of death.
  • Understand the need to communicate with key persons that death has occurred.
  • Understand the role of the coroner’s officer and coroner.
